Live, Love, Learn: QNEST’s Parent Panel

On October 14, QNEST hosted a deeply moving parent panel at Myrtle Baptist Church in Newton, MA, bringing together parents and a young adult to share their journeys of love, resilience, and acceptance within the LGBTQ+ community.

The evening began with a gay father of a gay son, who reflected on growing up in a traditional Irish Catholic household and the challenges of unlearning shame to become the supportive parent his son needed.

We then heard from a single mother of a transgender son, who spoke about protecting her child from unsupportive family and friends. Her son faced depression but, with love and persistence, is now thriving.

Another parent, a father of a transgender male, shared a powerful story of heartbreak and hope—his son survived two suicide attempts and, with support and acceptance, has grown into a strong, successful adult.

The evening concluded with a transgender man who had endured homelessness and addiction after aging out of foster care without receiving the gender-affirming care he needed. Now 24, adopted, and pursuing his college degree, his story highlighted the life-saving power of belonging and support.

The event reminded everyone in the room that family acceptance saves lives. Through open conversations and shared experiences, we can build a world where every LGBTQ+ child feels loved, valued, and safe—no matter their journey.
